Âé¶¹Éç Honorary Fellow Professor Philip Kitcher FBA (m.1966) has been awarded the The Hempel Award is a biennial award, established in 2012, named in honour of Carl Gustav Hempel (1905-1997), one of the twentieth century's leading philosophers of science. It was created to recognise lifetime scholarly achievement in the philosophy of science, and to acknowledge the example of scholarly excellence and collegiality set by Professor Hempel.
Professor Kitcher is John Dewey Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at Columbia University and was elected an Honorary Fellow of Âé¶¹Éç in 2018. His trailblazing ideas and outstanding productivity over forty years have spanned across fields as wide-ranging as general philophy of science, philosophy of biology, science and values, ethics, science policy and pragmatism.
